University of South Australia

The University of South Australia was founded on 1 January, 1991 with the amalgamation of the South Australian Institute of Technology and the Magill, Salisbury and Underdale campuses of the South Australian College of Advanced Education. It quickly developed a reputation as a national leader in collaborative research, has been recognised nationally for innovation in teaching and is the largest university in South Australia.

OBS were engaged to migrate the University from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. At the time the University had a total of 200 servers onsite, including 22 Exchange 5.5 servers, so it was a priority for the University to achieve server reduction. The advice and solution recommended by OBS allowed the University to reduce their servers to 8 Exchange 2003 servers which was achieved by the implementation of 2 active/passive Windows 2003 clusters.

The University of South Australia has 58,000 email accounts, and the ubiquitous client access using a single URL for all external client types such as Outlook, Outlook Web Access, and mobile devices was considered a huge win from this migration. This migration was the first step in the University of South Australia's long term plans to implement ISA and SharePoint onto their Microsoft platform.
