The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) provides an integrated range of audit reports plus related products and services to the Australian Parliament, Commonwealth public sector agencies, statutory bodies, audit clients and the general public. As a specialist public sector practice, the ANAO assists the Auditor-General to provide an independent view of the performance and financial management of public sector agencies and bodies.

The ANAO were looking to replace their current Lotus Notes intranet with a SharePoint Portal. For the ANAO it was very important that current information on Lotus Notes could be migrated to SharePoint, so they could achieve integration with Microsoft Office applications and that there was business value across the organisation by using integrated portal technologies. ANAO realised through internal analysis and comparison of the products that a SharePoint Portal was going to empower their staff to collaborate, publish and discover documents quickly and easily across the organisation.

OBS undertook strategic business consulting with the ANAO to understand their vision and need for the SharePoint Portal. Over the time span of only five days OBS created a proof of concept portal. This portal converted the idea of the intranet into a tangible form for review by key ANAO stakeholders to provide them with the means to understand the benefits and functionality of SharePoint. The ANAO engaged OBS to design and implement the organisation's SharePoint Portal, replacing their existing Lotus Notes intranet.

The ANAO now have a branded corporate portal called “Audit Central” with a corporate home page, news and announcement pages employees can subscribe to, employee ‘My Site’ pages for personal and public profiles; document management and collaboration within document libraries which have been extended with Nintex SmartLibrary workflow functionality; single sign-on functionality with their Peoplesoft environment; powerful search capabilities; and, a knowledge management foundation. ANAO are also using OBS PeopleFinder as a means to quickly locate contacts across the organisation.
